Outdoors
Outdoor recreation and adventure are definitely key activities throughout the northern Arizona region. Besides trips to Grand Canyon National Park, Flagstaff contains other attractions that look out into the bigger world. Famous Lowell Observatory is right on the edge of town, and the Arizona Snowbowl ski resort is only a few miles away.
History
Once the home of various Native American tribes, it's possible to see the ways in which these cultures survived in centuries long past. Visit the homes of the cliff-dwelling Sinagua at Walnut Canyon National Monumentor the pueblos of the Anasazi at Wupatki National Monument. The Museum of Northern Arizona contains artifacts from many of the archaeological excavations that have yielded so much information about these tribes and others. See the scars from the explosion of a volcano at Sunset Crater Volcano National Monument, an event that shook the lives of the indigenous people that once occupied the region.
